THE NEIGHBOURHOOD
Heritage-Rich
When it comes to Whitby real estate, there are an array of housing options that can suit anyones needs and lifestyles. With heritage-rich main streets, as well as local restaurants and boutique shops, the neighbourhood should appeal to those who have unique taste and want to avoid cookie-cutter homes. North Whitby is home to Taunton North, Rolling Acres, Pringle Creek, and Williamsburg – offering access to newer amenities and shopping. Central Whitby encompasses Downtown Whitby, Blue Grass Meadows and Lynde Creek – offering big city amenities on a small town scale.
Beach Access And Walking Trails
South of the 401 and along the shoreline of Lake Ontario is Port Whitby – offering beach access and walking trails. Expect more and more condos to crop up in Whitby, although there’s still a broad selection of ground-oriented housing available, and new low-rise homes are still being constructed within the town’s borders.
GETTING AROUND TOWN
Whitby is known as a commuter suburb in the eastern part of the Greater Toronto Area. Served by multiple major highways including the 401, 407 and 412, you can quickly get around to where you need to go. In terms of regional and local public transportation, the Whitby GO Station is served by multiple GO bus routes as well as several Durham Region Transit routes, which can be used for local commutes as well as trips to places as far flung as Port Perry to the north. The Toronto–Montreal Megabus also departs from Whitby. The station is a stop on GO’s Lakeshore East line, and commuters can make daily trips to Toronto’s Union Station.
THINGS TO DO
Whitby has quickly become a tourist destination and a number of attractions make Whitby popular, including the Iroquois Park Sports Centre and Baycliffe Park. Reptilia Whitby is a 31,000-square-foot reptile zoo, education centre, and playground. There are breweries to check out, conservation areas, and formidable retail options as well. Thickson Place and Whitby Mall, which are located opposite from each other, have tens of thousands of square feet of retailers. There are a number of entertainment venues that border Highway 401, including a large indoor mini-golf facility, an indoor skydiving experience, a massive indoor arcade, and a 24 screen Landmark Cinemas. The town also has 114 parks amounting to a total of 900 acres of active green space, as well as more than 1,000 acres of passive green space, and trails spanning about 60 kilometres.
Entertainment
Whitby Entertainment Centrum has a large indoor mini-golf facility, an indoor skydiving experience, a massive indoor arcade, a 24 screen Landmark Cinema, and an array of restaurants that’ll please all tastes.
Parks
The town also has 114 parks amounting to a total of 900 acres of active green space, as well as more than 1,000 acres of passive green space, and trails spanning about 60 kilometres.
Spa
Soon to be opened is the new Nordic-style spa. It’s a relaxation and healing centre that focuses mainly on heat therapy and relaxation techniques from Scandinavian countries. The spa is located in Cullen Central Park in north Whitby.
Skating
Situated on 50 acres of parkland, the Iroquois Park Sports Centre is Canada's largest municipally owned and operated recreation facility. During the winter months, you can skate on the frozen ponds in Lynde Shores Conservation Area.

Located in Historic Downtown Whitby, Brock Street Brewing Company is one of the largest craft breweries in the Durham Region. Producing numerous award winning premium craft beers, Brock Street Brewing Company also has a full service restaurant on-site, 12welve. Reptiles are their specialty, but look out for colorful amphibians, and fluffy arachnids as well!
